The
Queen Elizabeth Leisure Centre will be the venue for the sixth Swimathon
organised by Wimborne Rotary. It will take place for 6 hours on Saturday
15th November 2008 from 3.30pm until 8.30pm.
Anyone who wishes can create his or her own team of 6 swimmers. They will
elect a Team Captain and give a funny name to their team. They will be
allocated a time slot of one hour for them to complete as many lengths
as possible.
Each team member will have a sponsorship form for him or her to obtain
pledges for the numbers of lengths, which they achieve.
Application forms can be obtained from Peter Douch on 01202 882936. The
closing date for entry is 30th. October 2008. The principal charities
to benefit this year are shown below and, very importantly, a quarter
of the money raised will be returned to the project or charity of each
teams choice. Stephen Protheroe, President of Wimborne Rotary says,
"I am delighted that once again Wimborne Rotary is able to organise
an annual Swimathon."
FURTHER INFORMATION
The Event
The 25m long QE pool will have four lanes. Each member of his or her team
will swim there and back in one lane and then change over with a team-mate.
It is not a race and will continue for 55 minutes and then a five minute
change over to the next team. Last year 40 teams consisting of 200 swimmers
took part and raised over £18,000. As well as the three main charities
19 others benefited by the 'Team's Choice'.
A photograph will be taken and a copy given to each team member.
On leaving the Leisure Centre a Certificate of Achievement
will be presented to each swimmer. It is anticipated that more than 300
men, women and children will take part in this fun day.
