SWIMATHON
30th October
Canford School
Sports centre.
We are delighted to
inform you that once again the Wimborne Rotary Swimathon 2009 has been
a huge success and last night the total amount of money pledged was £10,000.
This will be increased by the Gift Aid content which should hopefully
bring this up to £12,000.
"Harold"
the giraffe mascot of Life Education was able to blow the whistle and
set them off.
"Great
Santa Fun Run"
Sunday saw the inaugural "Great Santa Fun Run" at Badbury Rings
organised by the Wimborne Rotary Club. Over 70 adults and children took
part and the £5000 plus Gift Aid they raised will go to the charity
of their choice.
Before the start there was a warm up for all people and this was kindly
organised by Michelle Noble a UK National Triathlete and the starter was
Nick King.
This exciting family event brought out parents and children in support
of a variety of charities - PACT, CAB, Alzheimer's Society, Cancer UK
& Naomi House just to name a few. Also running was the BBC Radio Solent
presenter Jon Cuthill together with his recording equipment.
Tim Ridge, Chairman of PACT (Children & Parents Together) charity
said, "The Rotary Club has given us a wonderful opportunity to bring
families together and at the same time raise money for our charity."
Rex Hurdle, President of Wimborne Rotary said," This has been our
first Santa Fun Run in Wimborne and clearly it has been very successful.
We now plan to hold this as an annual event as it is a way for the general
public to enjoy themselves and at the same time raise money for charity.
I would also like to thank the National Trust and farmers for allowing
us to use Badbury Rings."
